UPDATE: Felixton water solution in the pipeline

Water cuts might remain in place indefinitely

HOPE is in the pipeline for Felixton Village residents who have gone for more than two weeks without water.
In answer to the community’s calls for clarity regarding the delay in supply, speaker for uMhlathuze municipality, Mfundo Mthenjana, councilor Andre de Lange and project manager, Sabelo Hlela last Thursday met with Felixton College and the Home Owners Association (HOA).
They gave assurances contractors were on site working to resolve the issue, which stemmed from a pipe burst following a bridge collapse.
The pipe was dug up by hand and repaired, only to start leaking again.
Contractors are now ready to finalise repairs after delays in finding a special-order metal replacement pipe, which had to be fabricated and delivered from Durban.
‘The repairs are scheduled to be completed by Sunday, and we are certain the water will be back on Monday,’ said Mthenjana.
From Thursday, the municipality resolved to release water from 4pm to 8pm and from 5am to 8am.
With the current drought, this measure might remain in place indefinitely.
However, the water tankers residents have become reliant on to provide clean water will still deliver as before.
