Police chase down robbery suspects

Armed robbers on the run after cash heist in Empangeni CBD

EMPANGENI police were involved in a dramatic chase to capture four suspects who committed a robbery shortly after noon today.

The suspects accosted a man, believed to be a pastor, just after he withdrew money outside ABSA Bank in Maxwell Street, taking his Range Rover and just over R20 000 in cash.

The victim was stabbed, but the extent of his injuries are not clear at this stage.

He was treated by ambulance services on the scene and transported to hospital.

Shortly thereafter the vehicle was found abandoned in Turnbull Street.

The suspects fled in their own vehicle, a white VW Polo.

Just after 2pm police caught up with the vehicle on the N2 and managed to bring it to a stop at the Esikhawini off ramp.

One suspect was arrested.
