Rape accused teen for mental assessment

AN eSikhaleni teenager charged with a rape of a four-year-old girl will undergo mental assessment. This was revealed when the suspect (15) appeared at eSikhawini Regional Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

He was arrested in November of 2014, after a case of rape was opened with eSikhawini police.

However, during court proceedings, it emerged he might be mentally disturbed and needed evaluation.

Three State doctors will be given the task to assess the accused, and give the court their recommendations on whether he is fit for trial.

If results confirm he is mentally disturbed, the teenager will become a State patient until further evaluation.

The case will resume on 13 June.

However Investigation Officer Constable Clement Sboniso Nkambule of eSikhawini SAPS, said when he visited Zibane’s home at Ntuze Reserve in Mtunzini, his family denied his statement.

Zibane appeared alongside his friend and first accused, Nkosiyethu Sibiya.

Zibane will hear his fate during a bail ruling on 25 May, while his friend declined to apply for bail.

Christmas bush knife attack

AN uncle who survived being hacked with a bush knife by his nephew on Christmas Day last year, relived the traumatic experience in court on Thursday.
