Police nab most wanted robbery suspect

Detectives positively identified the suspect, who was being held by Hluhluwe police under a false name

A SUSPECT linked to at least five cases of armed business robbery in Empangeni, Richards Bay and eShowe was on Thursday (yesterday) arrested by Empangeni detectives.

Thobani Mthembu (26) was arrested by Hluhluwe SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Wednesday.

Mthembu appeared in Hluhluwe Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning under the false name of ‘Sithembiso’.

He was then positively identified in the holding cells of Hluhluwe police station by Lieutenant Kalvin Vandayar, Warrant Officer Thabani Nkwanyana and Constable Scelo Mabanga of the Empangeni Detectives Branch.

It is believed Mthembu could be connected to dozens of crimes ranging from armed robbery, business robbery and house breaking.
