A day of remembrance and courage

Peace, love, health and perseverance were among the nurses prayer list in eSikhaleni recently

‘YOU are around me on every side, protecting me with your power’

Grateful to have served a lifetime providing comfort to thousands of patients over the years, retired nurses uttered these words during their prayer session at eSikhaleni Community Hall on Saturday.

Organised by Empangeni and surrounding Retired Nurses Organisation, the session was to celebrate International Nurses Day and to pray for peace, health and the escalating drug and alcohol abuse.

The group also implored for divine intervention to assist the new generation of nurses.

‘Young nurses must understand their role in society. They must provide comfort to patients, assist them in every way. Patients are not to be abused or yelled at in any way. That’s not how nurses should carry themselves,’ said Thandi Mngadi.

Nurses had a moment of silence to remember their heroine and first nurse, Florence Nightingale.
A candle was also lit to remember those dedicated nurses who have passed on.
