Outspoken student in trouble with dad

Qwabe (25) who hails from eShowe and leads the Rhodes Must Fall campaign at Oxford University in the UK, made headlines recently after he refused to tip waitress Ashleigh Schultz at a restaurant in Cape Town.

RHODES Must Fall student activist Ntokozo Qwabe is facing a tongue-lashing from his father when he calls him again.

Qwabe (25) who hails from eShowe and leads the Rhodes Must Fall campaign at Oxford University in the UK, made headlines recently after he refused to tip waitress Ashleigh Schultz at a restaurant in Cape Town.

He wrote on the bill that she would get a tip when white people gave back the land to black people.

His comments caused uproar on social media while nearly R140 000 was donated to Schultz after a controversial fundraising campaign.

Qwabe’s father, Felokwakhe (65) this week spoke out against Ntokozo’s actions.

‘You can’t correct wrong things by also acting wrong,’ he said.

‘I am very shocked by the things I read about my son.’

He also expressed his intention to discipline his child.

‘I have not spoken to him about his actions because he lives far from me and he doesn’t call often as it is costly.

‘I have only heard these stories through the media.

‘I want to sit down with him, tell him that he is young and he needs to follow proper procedures when he is not happy about something.’

Ntokozo is a former law student from the University of KZN and received the Rhodes scholarship to further his studies in 2013 and is now a Master’s International law student.
