Local initiative goes global

Caring4Girls to take the stage at the Oxford Menstrual Hygiene Management Conference in England

WHAT started as a local initiative to raise funds for impoverished young women to receive sanitary towels has grabbed the attention of global activists.

Caring4Girls has been invited to the inaugural Oxford Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Conference on 15 June at the prestigious Oxford University.

The conference brings together global academics, researchers, activists, NGO’s and corporate organisations to discuss critical issues affecting the MHM field.

The day will be filled with speakers and interactive panel discussions that will enable greater dialogue to collaboratively progress efforts to improve MHM at an international level.

‘We are delighted to see our programme get international recognition,’ said Caring4Girls CEO Richard Mabaso.

‘I believe that it is crucial for Africa’s voices to be heard on such a global platform and we are thrilled for Caring4Girls to be one of those voices.’

Mabaso, who started the campaign in 2012, just returned from a two-week visit to the United States where he promoted the foundation’s initiatives.

‘I am overjoyed that my vision of this initiative is not only inspiring in South Africa, Africa and the world, but is becoming part of the global conversations to highlight menstrual challenges and collectively find sustainable solutions to make sure poor girls do not miss school days because of the lack of sanitary towels.’
