WATCH: Jolly good rains – but still not enough

Strong downpours over the weekend have been welcomed, with dry river beds flooding in HiP

WHILE much needed rain fell in buckets in Richards Bay over the weekend, the downpour has had no effect on dam levels.

Rain fell mostly on coastal areas, while the catchments remain parched.

Heatonville measured around 12.5mm while in Empangeni only 4mm had fallen by Saturday afternoon.

Entumeni and eShowe registered less than 1mm while Mantuma and Charters Creek had 7mm and uMkhuze South and Western Shores of iSimangaliso Wetland Park received 25mm.

By Sunday morning, more than 60mm had fallen at Inthaba Ingwe near Ntambanana.

As heavy rains continue to fall, motorists are urged to drive with care.

The video below was shot by tour guide Patrick Jolly of the normally dry Gqoyeni River in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park’s iMfolozi section on Saturday morning.
