Logos Hope arrives in Richards Bay

World's largest floating bookstore heads for Richards Bay

THE world’s largest floating book fair, MV Logos Hope arrives in Richards Bay next week.

The international crew will not only meet and greet guests arriving on board the ship but will visit local communities and leave their imprint through a variety of outreach projects.

At a press briefing on Tuesday morning the Advance Preparation Team and Ports Committee members outlined the programme, events and activities planned for 5 to 17 May when the MV Doulos’ sister ship opens to the public in the Small Craft Harbour at Tuzi Gazi Waterfront.

Project Manager, Jan Gunther said the Logos is more than a bookshop and will champion three main aims: to bring knowledge, help and hope to Richards Bay.

‘The ship will arrive in Richards Bay on Monday and will open to the public from Thursday at 2pm.

‘Through our bookstore we will bring knowledge with a variety of books on sale and via our social projects we will offer help through eye testing, distribution of reading glasses and donations of water purifiers and paint projects.

‘What people need today is hope and our 400 crew members who are all Christian have a story to share about their experiences.

‘We will visit the local communities, experience their cultures and help address their needs through practical aids.’

Meanwhile, Ps Raveshan Ramsamy thanked the Ports Committee for making it possible for the Logos to visit Richards Bay.

‘For some, this will be their first experience on board a ship and they will access to reading and study material at an affordable price.

‘Our communities will have the privilege of crew members visiting rural schools, orphanages and the less fortunate to conduct awareness campaigns and bring relief through donations of water purifiers and by painting.

‘We welcome these relief aids in these challenging economic times and thank all the organisations, role players and individuals involved in the preparation of the ship’s arrival,’ he said.

Entrance fee is R5 per person; children under 12 years enter for free but must be accompanied by an adult.
