AN eSikhaleni man and a woman from Mtubatuba were attacked and robbed in broad daylight while hitchhiking near the N2 on Monday morning.
According to the woman, the pair were headed to Mtubatuba when they were picked up by three men who dropped them off a short while later away from the highway.
The suspects assaulted the man with a bush knife before making off with the pair’s belongings, leaving them stranded and without any means of communication.
Despite a bad gash to his leg, which paramedics said reached the bone, the man limped several kilometers to Empangeni with the help of his companion.
Kwazulu Private Ambulance paramedics found the man lying on the pavement in Mpala Road, Empangeni, where he had eventually collapsed from severe blood loss and dehydration.
