Crossroads turns the corner

The Crossroads Teen Centre is making headway as it continues to grow in numbers

AFTER a whirlwind start to the year, the Crossroads Teen Centre in Empangeni is hard at work as each one of its 175 members receives daily social and educational guidance.

With an increase in members, the workload has doubled with pupils taking part in daily workshops, tutorials, Bible study and cultural activities.

Each busy week concludes with a more personal workshop, held in an effort to address the more critical needs among the teens.

The centre recently hosted Paul Scherzer who held a Career Workshop which saw the teens address their plans for the future.

Assessments were done and as a result, the centre is fully aware of each member’s future goals and can now assist them in opening the right doors to their desired career.

Assisting with these workshops are new volunteers Thabiso Mokoena and Nonhlahla Dlamini who, together with Centre Manager Desiree Laatz, have made a monumental difference in the lives of their members.

Donations

After receiving an anonymous donation of six computers earlier this year, the centre was able to expand its computer facility and will again expand in the future if needed.

‘We are thankful to report that we now have 10 PCs in perfect working condition and our teens are learning and getting school work done because of it,’ said Desiree Laatz.

‘We also thank our donors who give funding each month and the once-off payments we receive.

‘With your support we have been able to provide over 60 interventions in the past few months that have impacted our teens in ways that words alone cannot explain.’

The centre is still in need of a number of items including a colour printer, wall paint, plastic chairs, new music equipment and educational books.
