Suspected hitman arrested

The alleged hitman was described as 'like an animal in the area of Makhasaneni outside Melmoth'

AN intelligence-driven police operation led to the arrest on Friday of a suspect believed to have committed murders and attempted murders in Melmoth, Nkandla and KwaMashu.

Members of uThungulu Crime Intelligence and Nkandla detectives searched the Empangeni CBD area and Ngwelezane’s Bomvini Reserve following a tip-off and the dangerous suspect was taken into custody around 7.30pm.

The 26 year-old was found in possession of two unlicenced pistols and 31 rounds of live ammunition.

The serial numbers had been filed off both weapons.

He was detained at the Empangeni police cells and will make a first appearance at the Empangeni Magistrate Court today (Monday) regarding the unlicenced firearms and ammunition.

The alleged hitman was described as ‘like an animal in the area of Makhasaneni outside Melmoth’ and is suspected to be have been involved in a spate of murders at Durban KwaMashu hostel and surrounding areas.
