Job conman taken down

Brazen conman operates from civic centre

NOT only did a scam artist promise unemployed women jobs at the uMhlathuze Municipality, he met them there at his ‘office’ to conclude the deals.

But the trickster more than met his match on Wednesday morning when municipal security staff handcuffed him and handed him over to the police.

According to three females who had brought their CVs to the civic centre, the man approached them at the Lakeside Mall area and offered the jobs at a cost of R300.

However, they soon realised this was a rip-off and instead of becoming victims, they will now be complainants when the matter goes to court.

‘We are well aware of this type of operation and we believe the suspect may well be part of a bigger syndicate that uses such people as runners,’ said City Acting Manager: Public Safety & Security, Zolile Poswa.
