Residents’ speedy reaction foils robbery

Community Protection Initiative (CPI) Richards Bay respond to resident in house robbery ordeal

QUICK intervention by members of the Community Policing Initiative (CPI) Richards Bay foiled a house robbery in progress in Arboretum on Wednesday.

The robber broke a window and gained entry into a house in Honeysuckle street around midnight.

According to CPI representative Donald Pittendrigh, the woman and her child were home alone and when she woke up she saw the perpetrator in the house, locked herself in the bathroom and contacted the CPI for assistance.

‘Members rushed to the scene and about 10 people surrounded the house.

‘The suspect heard us screaming out to the owner and he broke another window and escaped,’ said Pittendrigh.

‘He had piled up some household goods next to the window, but fled with nothing.

‘He was chased into the greenbelt and swamp area, but got away.

‘We had excellent cooperation from our local security companies who assisted with the search and patrols,’ said Pittendrigh.
