Bay jockey rides wave of opportunity

Zululand jockey Godden jets off to the UK

RICHARDS Bay’s Tristan Godden, an apprentice jockey at the South African Jockey Academy (SAJA) in Summerveld, will be heading for the United Kingdom this week for a month to complete the International Apprentice Course at the British Racing School (BRS) campus in Newmarket.

Godden, a fourth-year student at SAJA is a focused and passionate apprentice who loves horse racing and wants to ride in Hong Kong once he qualifies.

The South African Jockey Academy (SAJA) has partnered with the British Racing School (BRS), through funding from The Childwick Trust, to provide two of its apprentices the opportunity to complete the course abroad.

Joining Godden is apprentice jockey Eric Ngwane from Durban and they are the first apprentice jockeys to be selected.

The young men will initially be under the guidance of SAJA Principal Graham Bailey, who is going across briefly under invitation from the BRS to further finalise the partnership between SAJA and the BRS.
