A YOUNG man was brutally killed in what was believed to be an act of street justice in eSikhaleni on Tuesday morning.
Zakhele Mchunu (30) from the H2 Section was attacked by an angry mob opposite the township’s mall at around 11:20am.
The incident happened shortly after Mchunu allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a knife.
Eyewitnesses told the Zululand Observer he was attacked with bottles, stones and other objects.
‘After he stabbed the young woman, residents chased him and caught up with him at the Mzingwenya river where he got stuck in the mud. They dragged him next to the road intersection where they started assaulting him.’
According to the police, Mchunu was already pronounced dead by the time they arrived.
‘The stabbed woman was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. A case of murder has been opened at the eSikhaleni police station,’ said spokesperson, Lt Thembinkosi Mkhumane.
No arrests have so far been made.
