iNkosi Mkhwanazi praised for initiatives

District Prayer planned

‘IF all our traditional leaders were as passionate about their work as the head of the Mkhwanazi Traditional Authority, iNkosi Mandla Mkhwanazi, rural development would have been an everyday occurrence.

‘Since taking over the reigns, iNkosi Mkhwanazi has been instrumental in unlocking development for his communities and is keen to see his people prosper at all costs.’

This was the opinion of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor, Cllr Zethu Gumbi, speaking at the launch of a district prayer initiative held at the uMfolozi Casino Resort last week.

The district prayer, organised by iNkosi Mkhwanazi, will be held on May 14 this year at the University of Zululand.

‘As the City of uMhlathuze we wish to recommit ourselves to this initiative in light of the current challenges engulfing this country.

‘The community of Mkhwanazi should consider themselves lucky to have a leader of iNkosi Mkhwanazi’s calibre, who always puts his people first.

‘He was the first traditional leader to attend our Council meetings because he cared about his people,’ said Gumbi.

In response, iNkosi Mkhwanazi said he saw the need for prayer for peace, drought relief and a solution to the serious social ills sowing destruction in our society.

‘We are in solidarity with iNkosi Mathonsi and the community of Mandeni relating to the recent unrest we have witnessed there.

‘I’m extending an invitation to all political parties, church leaders and the business community to join us on that day.

‘We will also be praying for a stop to the carnage on our roads.

‘We are pleased that the Sivananda World Peace Foundation has agreed to join us on that day,’ he said.

Voter registration

The event was also addressed by uThungulu’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Nonhle Mkhulisi, Provincial Police Secretary Mvuseni and the IEC’s Outreach and Training Officer for the uThungulu District, Lihle Luthuli.

Luthuli commended the people of uThungulu for turning up in large numbers during the recent voter registration weekend.

‘Of all the 11 district in KZN, only uThungulu and Zululand were reported to have been totally peaceful.

‘We must now get ready for the second round of voter registration scheduled for 9 and 10 April.
