UPDATE: Geobag wall grows steadily

Steady progress on Alkantstrand dune barrier wall

PROGRESS on the extension of the geobag dune defence wall at Alkantstrand continues at a steady pace.

The first 80-metre coastal buffer wall section in front of the lifeguard house was completed in December and the City of uMhlathuze, through contractors Leomat Construction, is presently extending this to a point about 200 metres northwards.

The 2.8-ton geobags are being laid from a foundation one metre below sea level and are layered to form an artificial sloping that is proving effective, preventing high tide wave action from eroding the dune face.
