Fostering a culture of giving back

NYDA to work with uthungulu

IF all successful individuals understood the concept of giving back to the community, the level of poverty in the country will decreased dramatically.

This was the message of uThungulu District Director for the Department of Education, David Chonco, speaking at the handover of personal hygiene products for girls and school vouchers to four schools by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).

The handover was held last week at Esikhalenisenkosi High School.

The four high schools targeted were Matholamnyama, Nkosithandile, Gqokinsimbi and Enhlangwini.

‘We need to applaud people such as the CEO of the NYDA, who did what very few people would do with their salaries. By helping one child, one can make a difference,’ Chonco said.

‘We need to foster a culture of giving back to the communities that made us what we are today. Those who are at the top must always remember where they come from.

NYDA Branch Manager Sabelo Ntuli said NYDA, in particular its CEO Khathu Ramukumba understood that education remained the most crucial weapon in the fight against poverty, inequality and unemployment.

‘In June 2014 when our CEO assumed office, he agreed to accept a salary reduction with the proviso that the funds saved would be redirected towards basic education support for the youth.’
