ON MONDAY Sandile ‘So’ Gcwabaza (25) was sentenced in the Mtunzini High Court to 53 years imprisonment for murder, two counts of armed robbery and for housebreaking.
He committed the crimes in 2013 in eSikhaleni.
According to court evidence, a woman was approached by three gunmen in the Port Durnford area and robbed of her handbag.
She shouted for help and community members gave chase.
The suspects randomly fired several shots while fleeing and one of the shots hit and killed Musa Zibane (31).
The following year Gcwabaza was arrested for armed robbery and murder.
He was also linked to housebreaking and armed robbery cases committed in the area.
He was sentenced to 20 years for murder, 15 years on each count of armed robbery and three years for housebreaking.
