WATCH: Bomb found at game reserve near Mkhuze

Mystery shrouds the origins of the mortar found near the Zululand Rhino Reserve

WORKERS at Zululand Rhino Reserve near Mkhuze on Sunday found a mortar bomb on the outskirts of the reserve.

Police were notified and the bomb safely disabled.

According to the police report, the bomb was a 81mm mortar bomb, as identified by members of the police explosives unit, and had been placed near a tree about a metre away from the road to Manyoni reserve.

Mkhuze SAPS notified the explosives unit whose members cordoned off the area, identified the bomb and then safely disabled it.

No one was injured nor anything damaged. The police then combed the area for more bombs.

National Crime Intelligence is working with the explosives unit on the case but, as yet, no suspects have been identified nor any arrests made.
