Teaching water safety in Zululand

Fish Eagles Fun gala a huge success

LOCAL children slapped on sun block, climbed into their cozzies, grabbed their towels and got rid of their water wings, before heading to the Meerensee Swimming Pool to participate in the Fish Eagles Fun gala on Saturday.

The ‘little rascals’ took part in 25m races, with the younger one’s showing off their skills using kick-boards across the width of the pool.

Coaches Bronwyn Macdonald, Sonja van Ryswyk, Trevlyn Palframan, Barbara Berridge, Renato Pitzer and Natalie Roos worked with the children on the day.

This fun event is aimed at showing the local community the importance of water safety.

It is a great way to introduce the ‘young guns’ to galas, officials at galas, basic rules and provides a platform into the swimming world.

The next Fish Eagles Fun gala will be held in March at the Meerensee Swimming pool, with the date to be finalised.
