Copper and dagga seized in Manguzi

The dagga suspects tried to bribe the arresting officer with R6 000

A JOINT operation between Manguzi SAPS and the National Intervention Unit proved successful this week when numerous suspects were arrested, in two separate operations, for copper theft and possession of dagga.

On Monday three suspects aged between 23 and 33 were arrested for robbery and theft.

Their arrest follows last week’s incident where three men armed with bush knives threatened a security guard and robbed him of his belongings while he was on duty at the power station in the Thengani area.

He later noticed that copper cables had been stolen and he notified the police.

A case was opened and the investigation led to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of the copper cables.

On Sunday, two men aged 27 and 42 were arrested for being in possession of 39 bags of dagga weighing about 50kg each.

Police confiscated the dagga, thought to have a street value of R2-million.

The suspects were charged for possession of dagga and appeared at the Manguzi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

They were remanded in custody until today (Thursday). During their arrest they offered the arresting officer R6 000 to evade arrest. A charge of bribery was added to their other charges.
