EHS girl cricketers on fire

EHS girls cricket remain unbeaten

EMPANGENI High School’s girls first cricket team (EHS) is currently on fire, beating eShowe High School by 20 runs in their first game of the new season, then following that performance with a comprehensive eight wicket victory over Richards Bay Secondary School on Friday at EHS.

The visiting side won the toss and elected to bat first on the flat, hard concrete artificial pitch.

EHS employed a simple game plan which paid off in the end, restricting Richards Bay Secondary to 55/2 in their 15 overs.

The home side packed their fielders in close to the bat to apply pressure on the batsmen and utilised the combination of good length with the bounce of the pitch in their favour.

Nobuhle Mncube managed double figures for her side, reaching 13 before being dismissed by a top delivery.

EHS fast bowler Ntethelelo Mkhwanazi worked magic with ball in hand, ending with figures of 1/4 in 2.

The EHS girls managed to reach 56/2 in the 12th over to claim yet another comfortable victory, thanks to Paige du Preez who smashed 14 not out, finding the boundary twice in her innings.

Wendy Mthethwa was the pick of the Bay bowlers, with impressive figures of 1/6 in 4.

EHS hosted Richards Bay Christian school yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon and will take on Felixton College away on Friday.

The Friday game gets underway at 2pm.
