WATCH: Alkantstrand beach takes another battering

SPRING tides took another big bite out of the dune barrier at Alkantstrand last night as coastal erosion left its mark.

While the protective geobag wall did its job in front of the lifeguard house, dunes north of the main beach were badly affected.

Two A-frame shelters were washed onto the beach as the dune slumped, while a swing ended up tottering over the edge.

Concreted poles and other debris littered the beach and bobbed in the water on Thursday morning, presenting huge danger for bathers and surfers.

Further damage is expected over the next couple of days as extra high tides continue.
