WATCH: Union protests at Richards Bay Minerals

RBM protesters hand over memorandum

MEMBERS of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) gathered in numbers at the gates of Richards Bay Minerals on Wednesday morning to hand over a memorandum of grievances to the business.

During the peaceful protest, which RBM had been advised of on Tuesday, they demanded to hand the memorandum over to RBM Managing Director, Mpho Mothoa.

However, he was in Cape Town attending a mining conference and it was accepted on his behalf.

Speaking from the Cape, Mothoa said there was no reason for such protests as there was a clearly negotiated structure for resolving issues, agreed to by all parties.

‘RBM is committed to ongoing, transparent engagement and is confident that the existing dialogue mechanism is the only recourse to a sustainable resolution.’
