KZN cracks down on illegal firearms

Police have recovered 41 firearms in a week

OPERATIONS to recover unlicensed firearms from the hands of criminals continue to yield excellent results in the province.

Many of these operations  have been successful, as 41 unlicensed firearms were recovered in just one week of operations which were carried out from 16 to 23 January across all KZN Clusters.

Of  the 41 unlicensed firearms, 31 were pistols, four of which were homemade. Two shot guns were recovered, along with four rifles and 208 live rounds of ammunition.

A total of 46 suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms, and appeared in the various magistrates’ court around the province.

‘We will not rest until we recover all the illegal firearms in our province. We are warning all those that are possessing the illegal firearms to surrender them to the local police stations,’ said the KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
