City repeats licensing requirements

City of uMhlathuze has reiterated the requirements for those wishing to avoid being turned away because of incorrect documentation.

WITH frustrated, over-heated applicants still standing in long queues at the municipal licensing department, the City of uMhlathuze has reiterated the requirements for those wishing to avoid being turned away because of incorrect documentation.

‘It is obvious that many people are still not aware of the documentation needed to process certain applications,’ said City Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane.

‘It is frustrating for everyone and we would like to assist with the correct requirements.’

These are:

• Proof that may be submitted in the case of full names, date of birth, identity number and business registration number is: any form of acceptable identification prescribed in the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996)

• Proof that may be submitted in the case of postal and residential address is: any utility account – electricity account, water account, sewage account or refuse removal account.

• In the case where the utility account is not in the name of the person, the person in whose name the utility account is issued must make an affidavit or affirmation declaring that the person resides at the address and affidavit must be accompanied by the utility account of such person.

• Proof of postal or residential address can also be confirmed by: a bank statement, a recent lease or rental agreement, municipal rates and taxes invoice, telephone or cellular account, valid television license, recent long term or short term insurance policy document issued by an insurance company, a statement of account issued by a retail store.

• In the case of a person who resides at an informal settlement or a rural area: a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councillor confirming the postal and residential address or a letter from the local tribal authority confirming the postal and residential address.

• In the case of a company; a certificate of incorporation or name change issued in terms of the Companies Act; a close corporation, a founding statement or a certificate of name change issued in terms of the Close Corporation Act.
