Stick fighting lands three in hospital

Fighting between the Mpungose and the Zulu groups got out of hand when some of the fighters were injured, and old grudges led to a fully-blown fight.

THREE people were injured and taken to hospital on Wednesday after a stick fighting game got out of hand at an Umemulo function held in the Habeni area.

Speaking to Zululand Observer, ward 25 Cllr Themba Nsele said according to local Induna Mdlalose, there had been a function in one of the households in the area and Izinsizwa (young men) engaged in their usual traditional game of stick fighting.

Apparently the fighting between the Mpungose and the Zulu groups got out of hand when some of the fighters were injured, and old grudges led to a fully-blown fight.

‘According to reports guns were drawn and the two groups started shooting at each other.

‘Three people were injured and were rushed to eShowe Hospital,’ Nsele said.
