IFP takes a vow ‘to serve the people’

A REPORTED vast increase in membership for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has bolstered the party’s hopes of taking over the uThungulu District municipality in the 2016 elections.

According to IFP uThungulu District Secretary Thobias Gumede, party membership has increased by more than 60% from the beginning of 2015.

At a district council meeting this week, members of the IFP celebrated the year’s successes and looked to their strategy for 2016.

‘We looked at our achievements in 2015 and we are extremely proud,’ said Gumede.

‘We took over Ntambanana and Mthonjaneni municipalities and including Nkandla, we now control three local municipalities in the uThungulu district.

‘As a party, we are prepared.

‘The IFP has governed before and we have proved that we know how to govern,’ said Gumede.

‘We called this meeting with our leaders, and we took a vow to serve the people and account for our actions.

‘We are proud to say that we never spent money on growing our own personal fiefdoms when we were mayors and speakers.

‘We are saying we are ready to govern.’
