WELL it’s finally New Year’s Eve, and you want to host a gathering of sorts, but have one problem of being low on funds.
So how do you throw an awesome event that will keep your friends talking without breaking the bank?
We’ve got some ideas for an awesome and cheap NYE party!
1. Don’t waste money on fancy invitations
Who actually sends things through the mail anymore? Distribute your party invite over email or social networks. We’re modern now and we like to save trees!
2. Throw a pizza party
Keep your guests food expectations in check by tactfully letting them know in your invite that ‘light appetizers and desserts will be served’. Or simply ask them to bring a dish to share – it is the season for sharing anyway
3. You don’t need a new dress/outfit
Yes, this is one of the last opportunities of the year to wear sparkles like Khanyi Mbau, but do you really need a new expensive dress that will probably get champagne spilled all over it? The answer is a big fat NO!
If you’re determined to show off in style, grab some designer outfit in your closet which you haven’t worn in a while. Surely there must be that one outfit which still turn heads.
4. Get cheap champagne and jello shots
No need to have a full bar. Ask your friends to bring a bottle of cheap champagne to pop at midnight, or a bottle of wine to share. Want something fun? Prepare some homemade cocktails with ingredients in the house. You will be surprised by what is lying in your fridge and pantry.
5. DIY your decorations
New Year’s is the best time to channel your inner Martha Stewart and show people what you’ve got. Here are some ideas:
- Cut out huge circles of colored paper and tape them to the wall.
- Cover your champagne bottles in glitter
- Attach sparkly foam circles to balloon strings
- Wrap cardboard numbers in tinsel
- Make your own party hats
6. Entertain guests with games
You know what is free? A great game of cards, or have someone bring along the latest board or party game.
It is possible to have an unforgettable party on a budget and you’ll be able to move onto those financial resolutions for 2016!
