Mayor rewards drivers for good behaviour

uMlalazi Mayor kick-starts Road Safety in eShowe

UMLALAZI Municipality Mayor Cllr Thelumoya Zulu, while promoting road safety in eShowe on Wednesday, rewarded motorists Christmas tokens if their vehicles were found to be in good order.

Working together with the uMlalazi Traffic Department, he checked cars and licenses and was on the lookout for drunken drivers.

The Road Safety Campaign was aimed at minimising accidents during this jolly time by ensuring cars are roadworthy.

Those who had their papers in order and cars in good condition were rewarded with Christmas tokens for their positive contribution and for respecting road rules.

‘We want to spread a strong message that drivers must check their cars for worthiness and do safety checks before they drive.

‘It is important to those taking vacations to leave enough time to reach their destination, and not to drink and drive.

‘Police and traffic officers will be deployed around our area during this time, to ensure people arrive alive,’ said Zulu.
