Full field of fast cars for oval track showdown on Saturday

THE annual Champion of Champions oval track event takes place this Saturday at the ZCBF Showgrounds in Richards Bay.

Gates open at 8am with a full programme of racing due to commence at 4pm.

The Super Midget class make a welcome return with both Quintin and Eugene Saayman in machines powered by turbo-charged engines, taking on the likes of Werner Kotze, Rina Kotze, Pieter Venter, Terrence Niemandt and Michael Hattingh in Mazda Rotary powered racers.

The hotrod class enjoys a healthy field with local drivers Okert Brits, Boetie van Tonder, Michelle and Neville Loosemore taking on the likes of Phillip Jacobs, Andries du Preez, Frans Joubert and Brendan James.

Lonika Maartens, at 15 years of age, is one of the rising stars in motorsport in South Africa, having recently clinched third position in the Young Lion World Championship for legend cars at the New Hampshire Speedway in the USA.

The 2L Modified Saloons return to Richards Bay with a six-car entry that includes the Du Randt brothers, Desmond Bosch, Haccum Hough, Rudy van Breda and Bubbles Venter.

Piet Venter has entered the Super Saloon class with his awesome V8 Chevy powered SASCAR and can expect to take on the likes of Bez Bezuidenhout and Johan Kleingeldt as they drive these overpowered monsters around the 340m oval.

Ninja Midgets, ¼ Midgets, Stock Rods, 1660 Saloons and 2L Hotrods make up an exciting entry as drivers have travelled from as far as Polokwane to support this prestigious event.

Admission to the grounds is R70 for adults and R30 for children.
