‘Pay me R12-million, I will go to jail for Dalindyebo’

A man says he will spend 12 years in jail for convicted AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, for a price

A MAN has offered to go to prison in place of convicted AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, but only for a cool R12-million.

Shaunmatentji Viny, made the offer via a post on the Zululand Observer Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to Viny’s profile, he is currently living in Mpumalanga. He was contacted by ZO journalists to ask what he would do with the R12-million, but he has not yet responded.

King Dalindyebo was sentenced by the Mthatha High Court to 12 years in prison after being found guilty on a string of charges including assault and defeating the ends of justice.

On 1 October, an attempted murder charge he was convicted of in 2009 was set aside by the Supreme Court of Appeals.

He was then subsequently sentenced to 12 behind bars for torching the homes of some of his subjects, and publicly beating three young men for allegedly ‘violating tribal law’.

This incident dates back to 1995.

He was ordered to hand himself over to Mthatha Correctional Services on Wednesday, but his lawyers have since submitted a petition claiming he had suffered an injustice.

His bail has been extended until 30 December to allow authorities to review the petition.

What do you think? Would you spend 12 years behind bars for someone else, even if it made you a millionaire?
