Grandfather shot in front of grandchildren

Grandfather shot in full view of grandchildren

A NTAMBANANA grandfather was shot and killed by unknown assailants in front of his granddaughters last week.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer, distraught daughter Gcina Dumisa said she received a message at work in Cape Town about her father having been shot, and had to catch the first flight out to be with her devastated family.

Gcina said her 14-year-old niece, who had been having breakfast with her siblings, heard gunshots.

They ran outside and found their grandfather lying next to the fence he was repairing.

‘My niece tried to block the bleeding, but the gun shots had done so much damage he succumbed to his wounds in front of his grandchildren,’ a distraught Gcina said.

Empangeni Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, confirmed that 54-year-old Mandla Dumisa was shot and killed at KwaMam Reserve.

‘According to the police report two young men approached the deceased and without warning fired several shots at him.

‘We appeal to anyone with information to contact us on 08600 10111,’ Mdlalose said.
