A LOVE affair between a 42-year-old man and young girl had a bitter end when the man was sentenced at eSikhawini Regional Court on Wednesday to 10 years in prison for statutory rape.
The man was charged after the victim’s mother opened a case with the police in April.
She told the police her daughter (15) had disappeared for two days and when she returned, revealed that she had visited her boyfriend at his house.
The mother then took her to the police station to report the crime and the man was arrested.
A case of statutory rape was opened at eSikhawini SAPS and transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
During court proceedings, both the victim and offender confirmed they were in a love relationship.
