Donors must keep blood flowing

SANBS boasts healthy blood stock levels.

THE South African National Blood Services (SANBS) has a healthy 5.3 day blood supply available, which it aims to maintain leading up to the festive season.

With mobile clinics at tertiary institutions, schools and businesses coming to a halt for the December holidays, donors are urged to visit the Richards Bay Blood Donor Centre to help keep stock levels up.

The country’s blood stocks usually dwindle this time of the year as road accidents reach alarming proportions and hundreds of people are injured and in dire need of blood.

The SANBS needs an average of 3 000 units of blood a day.

The public can save a life by taking 30 minutes out of their schedule to donate at the blood centre at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre.
