Bush rapist pleads guilty

He raped her, beat her with a rock and then strangled her.

A YOUNG rapist who viciously attacked a 16-year-old girl before repeatedly hitting her with a rock and then strangled her in Gingindlovu earlier this year, will spend 15 years behind bars.

Dumsani Zungu (21) was sentenced by Magistrate PT Maboee on Tuesday after pleading guilty to three charges at eSikhawini Regional Court on Monday.

He was charged with rape, attempted murder and theft.

Evidence revealed he crossed paths with the victim and proposed love to her. When the young girl rejected his proposal, he dragged her into the nearby bush and sexually assaulted her.

She attempted to fight back, but Zungu hit her on the head with a rock and strangled her with a cell phone charger cord until she was unconscious.

He fled the scene taking the victim’s cell phone and sandals, but was spotted by security guards in the vicinity and police nabbed him the same day.

Zungu was sentenced to 10 years for rape and 10 years for attempted murder and theft.

Five years of the second sentence will run concurrently with the first 10 years.
