UPDATE: Water situation still critical

Long term forecasters are predicting that the first meaningful rains are only coming in March next year.

WHILE some areas have received good rains in the past week, inland rains were still scarce with little falling in the eShowe, Melmoth and Ulundi areas.

The highest was recorded by St Lucia with a reading of 25.9mm.

Not far away, Mtubatuba received 16.7mm.

Rains in the eShowe region were all below 10mm, with Nkwaleni recording 8.4mm and eShowe measured 9mm.

Inland, Woodgarth farm measured 15.5mm and Melmoth receiving 15.7mm.

Dam levels remain critical with the Goedertrouw Dam still standing at just over 30% of its capacity.

Water restrictions remain in place and the public is asked to use water sparingly.
