UPDATE: No bail for thief on wheels

Notorious mugger on bike linked to four other ‘bag snatch’ cases.

A YOUNG man accused of having snatched several handbags from pedestrians in Richards Bay last month, will remain behind bars until his next court hearing.

Suspect Marius Douglas (24) was denied bail and has so far been linked to four other common robbery cases since he was arrested on 23 October.

After plaguing women for over a month using his red 125cc bike, he was finally cuffed by the Richards Bay SAPS after a brave local photographer gave chase when she witnessed him robbing a woman in Arboretum.

He was trying to make a getaway when armed police cornered him on Via Cassiandra.

‘We ask that all the victims of these crimes contact the investigating officer, Constable PP Mathanga, on 035 9012418,’ said Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira.

Ferreira confirmed since the arrest there have been no more reports of similar offences.

The date of the suspect’s next court hearing has not yet been set.
