IFP councillor Mbangiseni Biyela is the new mayor of Mthonjaneni Municipality.
This despite ANC councillors walking out of the meeting earlier today and the venue being evacuated after a bomb threat.
Police bomb technicians were dispatched and later confirmed the threat as false.
Two weeks ago council, through a vote of no confidence, removed ANC Mayor Maureen Dlangamandla and elected IFP Councillor Mbangiseni Biyela as the new mayor, reports of which the ANC and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) denied.
