About 200 beneficiaries are part of the beneficiaries' register.

CHRISTMAS came early for the community of kwaCebekhulu, outside Empangeni after the Department of Land Affairs awarded them a certificate for the land taken away from them during the former government’s forced removals.

About 200 beneficiaries, most of whom are now scattered all over the uThungulu District, are part of the beneficiaries’ register, which is currently being finalised.

The land in question stretches from Empangeni town, across Ukula northwards to the Nseleni River bridge, and eastwards to the N2 national road.

Committee Chairperson, TM Cebekhulu said negotiations for the land re-distribution began in 1996, and the community, under the leadership of Inkosi Nsikayezwe Cebekhulu is happy the land taken from their forefathers is being returned.

‘Today is a historic day for our community and our forefathers, as we receive this certificate of registration for the land from which which our ancestors were forcefully removed.’

Cebekhulu requested all families who know their forefathers were removed from the said land to come forward, so the committee can verify their claims.

They are asked to bring along certified copies of their ID documents.
