With dams in most parts of the country dropping to all-time low levels, City officials implemented Level 3 water restriction in January of the this year.

This means that residents are not to use hosepipes on their residential properties – this includes watering the garden, irrigating beds, filling swimming pools, cleaning surfaces or washing cars.

Go grey
Hundreds of litres of water are left to go down the drain on a daily basis – water which can be used in your garden or even to wash your car.
You can utilise grey water from baths and showers to irrigate your trees, shrubs and plants, but not your vegetable gardens.
If the grey water is used directly into the ground (sub surface drip) and within 24 hours, the water does not need special treatment other than minimal filtration to prevent blockages.

Where possible, use natural or organic body soaps, shampoos and household cleaning agents that are free of bleach or bleach-based additive.
