R70-million council security beef-up

Five contracts have been awarded to security companies to safeguard council assets

FIVE security contracts to the value of just more than R70-million over the next two years, have been awarded by the City of uMhlathuze.

The awards were announced at an executive council (EXCO) meeting last week, after the bid specifications were published in April.

• Fidelity Security Services will be providing security at cash offices and substations. They were the highest compliant preferential tender at R4.2-million per year over the next two years.

• Diverse security services was awarded to Control Risks Group, being the second preferential tender to the amount of R5.9-million per year over the next two years.

• Security at halls, parks, recreational buildings and miscellaneous sites was awarded to Mafoko Security, being the fifth compliant preferential tender to the amount of R7.7-million per year over the next two years.

• Makheda Business Projects and Security was awarded R11.3-million per year over the next two years to provide security at council’s major buildings and sites.

• Security at the water treatment works and sewage pump stations and related amenities was awarded to Madlokhonto Security to the value of R6.6-million per year for the next two years.

The contracts are subject to a 14 day objection period as per supply chain regulations, and interested parties are urged to contact the security section of the municipality for further information.
