Decomposing body discovered on Empangeni farm

Charred remains were found by a group of farm workers.

FARM workers stumbled upon a decomposing body, stashed in the sugar cane on a farm just outside Empangeni yesterday.

The body was found just after 6am and was described as being ‘severely decomposed’.

A fire set by the farmer had swept over the body, leaving only charred remains.

According to Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, an inquest docket had been opened.

‘At this stage it is very difficult to say how the person died or under what circumstances,’ he said.

He added that there were indications that the body was that of a woman, but this could not yet be confirmed, due to the condition of the remains.
