Empangeni family robbed at gunpoint

Four brazen criminals targeted a family of four in broad daylight.

A RETURN trip from the grocery store went horribly wrong for a family and their taxi driver yesterday.

The foreign couple and their two children, aged four and two,  were held at gunpoint and robbed of their possessions outside the family’s home in Watsonia Road, Empangeni at about 2.30pm

While unloading the vehicle, a blue Toyota Camry pulled in behind them. Three armed men jumped the fence and forced the family to lie down, robbing them of passports, cellphones and money.

A fourth man remained in the getaway vehicle.

The meter taxi driver, Leon Jones, was also robbed of the keys to his vehicle in the attack.

It is believed the family was targeted due to having drawn a large amount of cash earlier that day. However, the victims did not have the cash on them at the time of the robbery.

No arrests have been made.
