All calm at Unizulu

Unizulu focused on achieving a high pass rate while other universities protest and riot against next years' fee increase

WHILE student protests at universities are causing disruption across the country, students at the University of Zululand (Unizulu) continued with their end-of-year examinations undisturbed.

On Wednesday there was no sign of looming protests.

According to management, fee increases have not been addressed and will only be dealt with if and when the matter is raised by Council.

According to management the discipline is owed to proper communication between the institution and its students.

At the start of the 2015 academic year, university councils of three of the four universities in the province increased their fees – Mangosuthu University of Technology by nine percent, Durban University of Technology by 10 percent and the University of KwaZulu-Natal by 12 percent.

Unizulu had no increases.
