uThungulu education director wishes matrics well

Despite a bumpy start to the school calendar, it's all systems go for the 2015 matric examinations.

DESPITE a bumpy start to the school calendar, it’s all systems go for the 2015 matric examinations, with the first paper being written on Monday 26 October.

This was the word from uThungulu District Director for the Department of Education, David Chonco.

Chonco said the exams were the most crucial and vital that learners will write, since they determine their career and most importantly the rest of their lives.

‘My message to all our learners is that, you can only determine your success. I encourage you to spend maximum time on studying, put a stop to social media. It will distract you. You will have sufficient time once exams are over.

‘I must also remind you that the ‘Pens Down’ Celebrations are inappropriate, there is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination and finish. Your whole life, from the moment you are born to the old age is a process of learning. May I also request that you kindly pass down your uniforms to children less fortunate rather than defacing them.

‘Parents and siblings, I encourage you to support your children and ensure that the home environment is conducive to studying. Monitor your children’s movements carefully during this period. To the educators, organised labour and all stakeholders, thank you for your efforts, let us continue to guide learners until exams are completed.

‘My Class of 2015, I take this opportunity to convey my sincerest good wishes to you. Keep calm, give your best and remember ‘Desire is the key to motivation, but it is determination and commitment that achieves excellence,’ he said.
