UPDATE: Private pound to save the day

Private shelter on a plot between Richards Bay and KwaMbonambi to open on 1 December.

AFTER numerous pleas from motorists and local SPCAs for the establishment of a pound to remove roaming cattle off the city’s roads, a private pound owner has finally decided to answer the resounding call.

Bruce Mathison, who also owns a pound in Ulundi, told the Zululand Observer he plans to open the shelter on 1 December this year, on a 20 hectare plot between Richards Bay and KwaMbonambi.

It will have a vehicle on 24-hour standby to impound livestock and rescue game in the uMhlathuze region.

Mathison said, once the pound is in full operation, he will share all the information with members of the public.
