ONLY a day after the notorious Richards Bay thief on wheels was put behind bars, another woman became the victim of a ‘bag snatcher’ in Meerensee.
She was busy unloading her trolley at the LAC Centre parking lot on Wednesday morning when the brazen biker ran her over from behind and made a quick getaway with her handbag.
Witnesses at the scene said the young white man had light brown hair and was riding a red 125cc motorbike, similar to the one used by the first suspect.
Police have urged pedestrians and shoppers to be vigilant with their bags.
A case of common robbery was opened, but the suspect has not yet been arrested.
On Tuesday, the National Security company followed up on a tip-off by a community member who had tracked down the first suspect to his Arboretum residence.
The team’s supervisor pounced, detained the suspect identified as Justin Deroukakis (40), and handed him over to the Richards Bay police.
He appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and was refused bail.
Deroukakis will return to court on Thursday for a bail application.
